Any self-respecting car enthusiast would recognize the name McLaren. They are not only one of the most successful teams in Formula-One (having won eight constructor championships and 12 drivers titles), but they were also responsible for producing one of the fastest road cars ever made, which was aptly named the McLaren F1.
While in recent years McLaren had been busy building the SLR supercar for Mercedes-Benz, the CEO of this company wanted to build a car that was a bespoke McLaren.
The resulting car, named the MP4-12C was first shown earlier this year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. But a few months ago, the car made a surprise visit to the city of Toronto, Canada.
Its appearance was made possible thanks to McLaren’s newly appointed Canadian dealer, Pfaff Automotive.
The name Pfaff is very well known in Toronto, having been in the car business for over three-decades. Currently they sell Porsche’s, Audi’s, Volkswagen and (ahem.) Hyundai, with McLaren sales starting in the summer of next year.
So you have nearly a years wait before you can purchase this car, but will it be worth the wait? Let’s look at the car in detail.
This mid-engined, two-seater coupe has a carbon-fiber tub with an aluminum structure both in the front and the rear. This means the structure is not only very light, but also very strong.
It also features a very strong engine, a 3.8-liter, twin-turbo V8, that produces 592 hp. Power will be sent to only the rear-wheels via a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Thanks to launch control, this car will accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, and onto a top speed in excess of 325 km/h.
So it seems that on performance, this new McLaren will run with the best in the business, maybe even better. I won’t know how good this new McLaren is until I’ve driven it, but the specs certainly look promising enough.
If you are intrigued by this car and want to be among the first to have one in the country, you better start saving, because base price will approximately be $250,000. You also should hurry, as only 25 cars will be coming to Canada next year, and the order books are filling up fast.
