A few weeks ago, I featured a Lotus that was not quite a Lotus, because it was built by Kia. This week, I am featuring a proper Lotus, and it is a rather special track day toy – however, it might not even be a used car, so should it be featured here? I say, sure, why not.
It’s called the 2015 Lotus Exige LF1 CUP, and only 81 examples will be made for the global market (that production number is to commemorate Lotus’ 81 victories in Formula 1, the last of which came in 2013 with Kimi Raikkonen at the helm). A grand total of seven-units have made their way to North America, from which two reside in Canada. The one featured here, is one of those two.
Powering the 2015 Exige LF1 CUP is a 3.5L V6 taken from the Toyota Camry! OK, thankfully it is not a stock Camry engine, as Lotus has given it a supercharger. End result is 345 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, going to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. That is enough to propel this 1,176 kg coupe from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.0 seconds, and on to a top speed of 274 km/h.
The Exige LF1 was only made available in North America as a track day vehicle – so, you can’t drive your $145,000 sports car to the mall or the office. However, all the bits like lights, indicators and bumpers are present, so when this car becomes 15 years old, I am pretty sure you can have it registered for road use in Canada.
I would absolutely love to have a go in this 2015 Exige LF1 CUP. If you have the resources to buy it, send me a message and please let me take your car around for a few laps. For more information on this unit, check out this >>>LINK<<<.
