Interesting Used Car Of The Week: 2006 Hamann Volcano

slr_volcanoMy apologies for not posting something on my “Interesting Used Car Of The Week” feature in a while, but life had gotten quite busy recently, so haven’t had the time to work on this project. I hope today’s entry will make up for lost time.

The only time I have ever seen a Hamann Volcano in the flesh, was at the valet parking area of the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai, back in 2009.

I had seen pictures of the thing before, and wasn’t quite impressed by it. But seeing it in person changed my perspective of it. The quality of the modifications to the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren are really quite spectacular, and takes the already outrageous standard vehicle on to a whole new level.slr-volcano-hamann-5

Hamann didn’t just add spoilers and a body kit to the SLR, no they tweaked its supercharged 5.4L V8 from its standard 626 hp to a nice round 700 hp. To aid with the extra grunt, Hamann added a second water pump to keep things cool. They also reworked the shift times for the automatic gearbox, so it swaps cogs even quicker now – all of this results in a car that can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds, and on to a top speed of 348 km/h (o.2 seconds quicker, and 14 km/h faster than the standard model).SLR_volcano_IMG_02

So, this is no average tuner vehicle. The one I’m featuring here, which is currently for sale at Al-Ain Class Motors in the UAE, is the only one ever made with yellow carbon trim pieces. It has covered about 3,900 km – however, the dealer has not listed its asking price.
